What To Expect From Game Of Thrones Spin Off

What To Expect From Game Of Thrones Spin Off

With the Game of Thrones last season, one of our favorite tv series is coming to an end in 2019. This epic fantasy has proved to be the most popular television show. We do not know much about Game of Thrones Season 8, but there’s still good news out there for fans of the fantasy series. It’s been announced that HBO’s Game of Thrones spin off will officially start filming in October 2018, in Belfast, Ireland. They reportedly eyeing a budget of over $50 million per season. The official synopsis states that the Game of Thrones spin off will be named The Long Night taking place 10,000 years prior to the Game of Thrones. So here is everything that we expect and need to know about the series.

Is it a Game of Thrones Prequel or sequel?

Author of Games of Thrones TV show, George R.R. Martin said that the chosen spin off will be a Game of Thrones prequel, “Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel. They may not be set in Westeros. Rather than ‘spinoff’ or ‘prequel’ he prefers the term ‘successor show’.

The cast: Who’s in it?

There won’t be anyone we’ve seen before in the Game of Thrones TV show universe. It is confirmed in January that the spin offs won’t involve Jon Snow, Danaerys or anyone else. They will be an entire new cast and the working title The Long Night.

The writers: Who’s making it?

George R.R. Martin is involved along with other five writers which are: Kong: Skull Island’s Max Borenstein, Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Jane Goldman, LA Confidential’s Academy Award-winner Brian Helgeland, Westworld’s Carly Wray and Bryan Cogman, one of Game of Thrones’ chief writers. It is a group of fantastic and very talented writers.

Spin off air date: When will it be on?

Casey Bloys said that the spin offs won’t air until a year after Game of Thrones’ last season. So, that means 2020 will be the earliest. He said that his number one priority in all of this is the last season of Game of Thrones and he does not want to do anything with a spin off that distracts from that.

Where will it be shot?

Game of Thrones spin off will reportedly film at The Paint Hall in Titanic Studios, Belfast. It was previously used for Game of Thrones, so all the excited fans can count on the consistency within the beloved worlds of Westeros. Belfast is definitely the favourite place these days for filming, with Game of Thrones, The Long Night, Superman prequel – Krypton!

Stories that we expect in this spin off

At least, Martin cleared some long rumored facts about the Game of Thrones spin off that it’s not about Robert’s Rebellion. So what can it be about? These are the most anticipated story lines that we expect from the series.

#1 The Doom of Valyria that lead to the Foundation of Braavos

The ancient landmark of Valyria was shattered as it sank into the sea after a series of volcanic eruptions. It happened four hundred years before Game of Thrones. Valyria is well known for it’s ancient magic and mythology, it would be an ideal setting for a spin off.

The slaves of Braavos fled to other cities after the doom. Also it lead to a struggle of power between the cities of Essos, out of which Braavos would make an interesting setting. With the introduction of characters like Artys Arryn, the Falcon Knight and Garth Greenhand, a man that had more sex than Tyrion, Oberyn and Dany combined! Also he introduced farming in Westeros.

#2 Dance of the Dragons

The first major civil war since Aegon’s Conquest of Westeros took place 129 years after the seven kingdoms united. It saw a war of succession between King Viserys I’s children, Rhaenyra and the illegitimate Aegon. Full of bloodshed and tragidy, it would be the perfect setting for an eight part series.

#3 Young Varys

Very little is known about the past of Master of Whisperers’. He was a street performer in Essos as a child, then sold to a sorcerer who castrated him and left him for dead. Later, he became a master thief and with Mopatis would steal and sell things to the same people he stole them from. This character is very mysterious.

#4 Five Separate Rebellions Against the Throne

Blackfyre rebellions happened during the 40 year period from 196 years after Aegon I’s conquest of Westeros (a century before Game of Thrones). They started when King Aegon IV legitimized all his bastards on his deathbed, making war on the throne due to competing lines. A Game of Thrones spin off around it would be very interesting.

#5 The Long Night

The White Walkers first terrorized Westeros eight thousand years ago, after they were accidentally unleashed by the Children of the Forest. This war led to the reshaping of continents (the Children mystically drowned a land bridge that had existed between Westeros and Essos) and the building of The Wall. If you want to meet Bran the Builder then this would be the perfect route.

#6 Another Beast

House Targaryen has less involvement in the period of Westerosi history.  Fear not dragon lovers, there’s a new beast for you. The Grey King, first ruler of the Ironborn, fought a great sea dragon called Nagga! After the magnificent scenes of Dany’s dragons pouring fire,  this spin off plot would be an amazing one. The Grey King took a mermaid as his wife. What is dead may never die.

#7 Around Bronn

He is loved character about whom we know very little. Who was Bronn before he fell in with Tyrion in the Lannister camp during the war against Robb Stark? Where was he from? How did he get so cynical?

#8 The Whole New World

We don’t know anything about Sothoryos, the gigantic southern continent, except that it’s coastline is full of jungle and it’s covered in plague. There are rumors that the Summer Islanders may have lived here. A whole continent, unexplored.

And there’s a fourth continent, Ulthos, which lies south of Asshai in the Far East.  We just know that it is heavily wooded.

#9 The pact

It’s assumed that The First Men and The Children of the Forrest met on the Isle of Faces and made a Pact, which led to peace between them.  After which the Age of Heroes begun. We think that the White Walkers returned when this pact was violated. So anything around this plot that could tell us something new is most welcomed.

These were some interesting things that every Game of Thrones fan must know! We are eagerly waiting for the Game of Thrones spin off to air. This story line would be completely different from what we have already seen. Whatever happens, we’re absolutely excited for it. Meanwhile, get ready for another trip to Westeros with Game of Thrones’ last season.
