The mystery surrounding them enraptures us, awakening our curiosity. They leave us wanting for more. Unless it is solved they linger in the back of our minds, taunting us, making us restless. The urban legends have been passed on in the families and with the passing of time they get more twisted and interesting. #1 The Night Marchers Of  Hawaii

The breezy Hawaiian beaches are a dream destination for many among us. Getting tanned lying under the lush blue skies with the luxury of the soft sand beneath us. A comforting book and a cocktail to sip on. The very definition of a perfect holiday. Some are more drawn towards the star gazing. Lying under the stars at midnight with music to sooth your minds. But what if this perfect scene is interrupted by the unexpected sound of beating drums and the sight of numerous torches on the horizon. Quite a creepy turn of events I would say. The urban legend goes that the ghosts of ancient Hawaiian warriors, sworn to protect the lands from external threat still roam the beaches and lands. The only way to save your skin is by lying face down and peeing on yourself as a mark of submission. The first of this case was reported way back in 1178 when Captain Cook arrived on the shores.

#2 Dudleytown In Connecticut

No, I’m not talking about the nasty Dudley who made Harry Potter’s life miserable. Maybe the name is cursed. Called the ” dark vortex” Dudleytown forest has plenty of creepy folklores attached to it. Anyone stealing any artifact from here is said to bring upon a curse on themselves and their family. Visitors of the forest report seeing every possible kind of paranormal happenings here. The strange scarcity of wildlife is also unnerving. The fact there is also a mysterious group who call themselves “the Dark Forest Association” just increases the creepy aura about the place. The urban legend has it that the beheading of Edmund Dudley for conspiracy against King Henry VII was the beginning of everything.

 

#3 The Dog Boy Of Arkansas

The name itself brings strange pictures into ones head. But nothing will add up to what the actual sight is. If you ever walk down 65 Mulberry Street in the middle of Arkansas town of Quitman, you will find a pair of glassy, animal eyes gleaming at you. Do not stop as he is said run behind you trying to bite you. This 300 pound half man and half beast looks like a giant dog. The rare urban legend has a story that is even more unsettling. The Boy, is actually Gerald Bettis, the young problem child of Bettis family. He is said to have tortured animals and by the end his own parents. He later died of an overdose.

#4 Skinwalkers Of Arizona

Skinwalkers? Surely not something pleasant.  Just driving through the eerie deserted roads of Arizona, especially at night is quite scary. What if that is joined by a short burst of taps on your window and you turn to find a shape shifting, mutilated, half human creature trying to tear your flesh apart? The legend  has it they are those among the ancient witch doctors that chose to follow the dark side. They are men who have turned to murderous creatures using their supernatural powers to torture and kill. The legend is so deeply carved onto peoples’ hearts that they believe crimes committed to be the work of the ancient monster and there is also an are named Skinwalker Ranch where the probability of finding them is more.

#5 Dead Children’s Playground In Alabama

This is among the popular urban legends. This creepy playground is attached to the cemetery in Huntsville. It’s oldest cemetery. It was supposed to keep the children engaged while the parents paid tribute to their loved ones who are no more. But things started getting scary when they they saw strange happenings in the ground after dark. They could here kids laughing and eerie lights on the slides. Soon they were convinced that the spirits of the dead children were visiting the ground at night.

#6 The Cursed Lake Lanier Of  Georgia

The massive man made lake located in the north of Alaska has a reputation for being the site of large number of unnatural deaths, drownings and unaccountable homicides. During it’s construction, the workers had dragged out the remains of a woman who had died years back. Even now the people are affirmative about sightings of a strange female figure on the waters. The ghost of the lady who was found more than 30 years ago still seems to haunt the place. the urban legend also has it that there is large catfish living in the dark depths of the water.

#7 Ax Murder house of Iowa

This one surely makes it in to the top 10 urban legends.The name gives away a lot. The evening of 9th of June, 1912 was an extremely dark one for the Moore family. Six family members and two guests were found brutally murdered the next morning with an ax wound to their heads. Even though a person was tried no one as ever convicted. From then the place has various reporting of paranormal activity. You can also experience it first hand if you wish to since it is possible to stay in the house. In 2014, the ghost hunter who tried to experiment was found dead the next day. He had stabbed himself in the chest.

 

#8 Wood Island Light Of Maine

One among the true urban legends, this one revolves around a lighthouse. The lighthouses are meant to help the sailors navigate. But the one on Wood Island does quite a different range of activities. It has become the location for strange moans, unexplained shadows and various other paranormal activities. the urban legend has it that Howard Hobbs, a local fisherman had murdered his landlord and later himself on the island. His ghost is still believed to roam and haunt the island.

 

#9 Hell’s Gate Bridge In Oxford

The story behind the Hell’s Gate Bridge starts in the 1950s. A young couple drowned to death after their car accidentally went off the bridge. Since this unfortunate happening many cases of paranormal activity has been reported. Nevertheless there are two popular confirmed legends. It is believed that if you drive your car out to the middle of the bridge and turn off the lights, the couple will magically appear in your car and leave a wet spot on the seat. The other widespread belief which is how the bridge got its name, is that if you drive over the bridge and look over your shoulder halfway through, the scenery behind you turns into a portal to hell engulfed in flames. To put an end to the wandering curios minds, cars have been prevented from using the bridge.
